Technician cleaning a dryer vent with a rotary brush behind a clothes dryer

Dryer vent cleaning in Richmond Hill, Aurora, Newmarket, Vaughan and Toronto

Every load of laundry sends warm, damp air and fine lint out through your dryer vent. The lint screen catches most of it, but some always gets past and builds up inside the duct, especially at bends and in long runs. Over time that buildup restricts airflow, makes your dryer run hotter and longer, and creates a fire hazard. UltiClean cleans the full dryer vent run, from the back of the dryer to the outside hood, in houses, townhouses and condos. Book it on its own or together with air duct cleaning.

How we clean your dryer vent

  1. Check the setup. We pull the dryer out and check the connector and the route the vent takes to the outside.
  2. Disconnect and inspect. The connector comes off so we can see inside the duct.
  3. Brush the full run. A rotary brush works through the vent from end to end, loosening packed lint at every bend.
  4. Extract the lint. Strong vacuum pulls the loosened lint out, so it does not end up on your laundry room floor.
  5. Clear the exterior hood. We remove lint and any nests or blockages from the outside flap.
  6. Reconnect and test. The dryer is reconnected and we check airflow at the outside hood.

Warning signs your dryer vent is clogged

    • Clothes are still damp after a full cycle, or need two cycles to dry
    • The dryer, the clothes or the laundry room get unusually hot
    • A burning or musty smell when the dryer runs
    • Lint collecting around the door seal, behind the dryer or under it
    • The outside vent flap barely opens when the dryer is on
    • Birds, nests or debris at the outside hood

If you notice any of these, stop using the dryer until the vent is checked. Read more in the signs of a clogged dryer vent.

    Why dryer vent cleaning matters

    Fire safety

Lint is highly flammable. When it builds up in the vent, hot air from the dryer has less room to escape, the temperature rises, and lint near the heat source can ignite. Fire services across Ontario regularly remind homeowners to clean the lint trap after every load and to keep the vent clear.

Faster drying and lower running costs

A clear vent lets hot, damp air leave quickly, so clothes dry in fewer minutes. A blocked vent makes every load take longer, which costs more to run and wears out the dryer.

    Longer dryer life

Overheating puts extra strain on heating elements, thermostats, belts and motors. Keeping the vent clear helps the dryer last longer.

    Less moisture in the home

A blocked or disconnected vent can push warm, damp air into the laundry room or wall cavity, which encourages mould and musty smells.

    Condo and townhouse dryer vents

Many condos in Toronto, North York, the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, Richmond Hill and Markham Centre have dryer vents that run a long way to the exterior wall, often through ceilings with several bends. Long runs clog faster and are hard to reach from the laundry closet. Townhouses often vent through the roof or a long side wall. We clean long and complicated runs and tell you honestly if a vent is too long or too restricted to work well, so you can raise it with your building or a contractor. When you book in a condo, tell us about the elevator booking and parking.

How often to clean your dryer vent

    • Most homes: at least once a year.
    • Large families or daily laundry: every 6 to 12 months.
    • Homes with pets: every 6 to 12 months, because pet hair adds to lint.
    • Long or complicated runs, including most condos: every 6 to 12 months.
    • Any time you notice warning signs.

Dryer vent cleaning with air duct cleaning

Many customers book dryer vent cleaning on the same visit as air duct cleaning. The equipment is similar, the technician is already there, and you get both jobs done in one appointment. If you only need the dryer vent, we clean it on its own too.

What you can do between cleanings

    1. Clean the lint screen after every load.
    2. Wash the lint screen with soap and water every few months to remove fabric softener film.
    3. Replace thin foil or plastic connectors with rigid or semi-rigid metal duct. Read foil vs metal dryer duct.
    4. Keep the area behind and around the dryer free of lint and clutter.
    5. Check that the outside flap opens freely when the dryer runs.
    6. Do not run the dryer when you leave the house or go to bed.

    Dryer vent cleaning questions

How long does dryer vent cleaning take?

Usually under an hour for a standard house. Long condo runs and roof vents take longer.

Do you clean dryer vents on their own?

Yes. You can book dryer vent cleaning by itself or with air duct cleaning.

Can you clean a vent that goes through the roof?

Often, yes, from inside. We will tell you when you book if roof access is needed.

My dryer is new. Do I still need vent cleaning?

A new dryer connected to an old, clogged vent will still struggle. If the vent has not been cleaned in a year or more, clean it when you install the new dryer.

Is a long dryer vent a problem?

Longer runs with more bends clog faster and slow airflow. We can clean them and tell you if the length or route looks like a problem.

Do you clean gas dryer vents?

We clean the vent run for gas and electric dryers. Any work on the gas connection itself should be done by a licensed gas technician.

Will you need to go on my roof?

Most vents are cleaned from inside, through the connector at the back of the dryer. If your vent exits through the roof and the hood is blocked, we will tell you before booking whether roof access is needed and how it will be handled safely.

Do I need to be home?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the laundry room. In condos, let the concierge know we are coming.

How much does dryer vent cleaning cost?

It depends on the length and route of the vent, whether it is a house or condo, and whether you book it with duct cleaning. Call 647-676-0576 for a written quote.

Your dryer vent cleaning visit, step by step

    1. We arrive, confirm the job and ask where the dryer vents to outside.
    2. Floors are protected and the dryer is pulled out carefully.
    3. We inspect the connector and the start of the vent run.
    4. The full run is brushed and the lint is vacuumed out as it loosens.
    5. We go outside, clear the hood and confirm strong airflow.
    6. The dryer is reconnected, pushed back without crushing the duct, and tested.
    7. We show you what came out and point out anything worth fixing, such as a foil connector or a damaged hood.

Landlords, property managers and rental units

Dryer vents in rental homes and apartments often go years without attention, because tenants clean the lint screen but not the vent. Booking a vent cleaning between tenants, or once a year in occupied units, keeps dryers working well and helps reduce the risk of lint fires. We can clean several units in one visit and give you a single written quote. Pair it with move-out carpet cleaning to get a unit ready faster.
