Air duct cleaning in Toronto: what is included
- All supply and return ducts, cleaned run by run
- Register covers and return grilles removed, washed and refitted
- Furnace blower area and cold air return cleaned
- Dryer vent cleaned through to the outside wall
- Antimicrobial mist applied after cleaning, on request
- Floors and walls protected at every opening
How we clean your ducts
- Inspect. We look inside the ducts and at the furnace so you know what is there before you pay for anything.
- Protect. Registers come off and the areas around each opening are covered.
- Agitate. A rotating brush works through each run to break dust, drywall debris and pet hair off the duct walls.
- Extract. High-power suction pulls the loosened debris out of the system and away from your rooms.
- Finish. Registers go back on clean, the dryer vent is cleared, and you see what came out.
We never steam clean ductwork. Steam leaves moisture inside the system, and moisture in ducts can lead to mould. Our steam equipment is for carpets, upholstery and tile only.
Furnace and duct cleaning for Toronto homes
Toronto has every kind of system: older houses in the east end and North York with original ductwork, renovated semis full of drywall dust, and new infill homes where construction debris was blown into the vents before anyone moved in. Fall is the best time to book, before the furnace runs all winter. After a renovation, book as soon as the dust settles.
Condo and townhouse duct cleaning
Many Toronto condos have an in-suite fan coil or small furnace and a dryer vent that runs a long way to the outside wall. We clean in-suite systems and dryer vents and work around your building’s rules. Tell us when you book if the elevator or loading dock needs to be reserved.
Dryer vent cleaning
Lint that builds up inside a dryer vent restricts airflow and is a fire hazard. Signs of a clogged vent include clothes that take more than one cycle to dry, a dryer that gets very hot to the touch, and a burning smell. We clean the full run from the dryer to the exterior hood. See dryer vent cleaning.
Know your rights: no door-to-door duct cleaning in Ontario
Since March 1, 2018, it has been illegal in Ontario to sell duct cleaning at your door unless you invited the company first. A contract signed that way is void. Contracts signed at home for duct cleaning also come with a 10-day cooling-off period. UltiClean never sells door to door.
Be careful with “$99 whole-house duct cleaning” offers. They often turn into large add-on bills once the crew is inside. We quote the full job up front, based on the number of vents, the size of the home and anything extra you choose.
Is duct cleaning worth it?
Duct cleaning is worth it when there is something to remove: visible dust or debris in the ducts, renovation dust, a new build, pet hair, a pest problem, or a musty smell when the furnace starts. It is not a cure-all. If your ducts are clean, we will tell you. Industry guidance recommends inspecting residential ducts every couple of years and cleaning them when the inspection shows a need.

Toronto duct cleaning questions
How much does duct cleaning cost in Toronto?
The price depends on the number of supply and return vents, the size of the home, the number of furnaces and add-ons such as the dryer vent or antimicrobial treatment. See what duct cleaning costs in Ontario. Call 647-676-0576 and you get a full written quote before any work starts.
How long does duct cleaning take?
A typical house takes a few hours. Larger homes with two furnaces take longer.
How often should ducts be cleaned?
Have them inspected every couple of years and cleaned when there is buildup, and always after renovations, a move or a pest problem.
Will it make a mess?
No. Openings are covered, and debris is pulled out of the system rather than pushed into your rooms.
Do you clean condo dryer vents?
Yes, including long vent runs to the exterior wall.
Signs your Toronto home needs duct cleaning
Most homeowners do not think about their ducts until something feels off. These are the signs we hear about most often from Toronto customers:
- Dust comes back fast. You dust on Saturday and the shelves look grey again by Tuesday.
- A puff of dust when the furnace starts. Look at the vents in the light when the heat kicks on.
- A stale or musty smell that gets stronger when the system runs.
- Uneven heating and cooling. Some rooms never warm up because airflow is restricted.
- Visible debris. Lift a register cover and look a few inches inside with a flashlight.
- Allergy symptoms that ease when you leave home and return when you come back.
Older Toronto homes and original ductwork
Many houses in East York, the Danforth, Leslieville, the Junction, Bloor West and much of North York were built between the 1920s and the 1960s. Some still have their original ductwork, often modified several times as furnaces were replaced and basements were finished. Decades of dust, renovation debris and the occasional lost toy end up inside. These systems benefit the most from a thorough mechanical cleaning, because there is simply more in them, and because older galvanized ducts have seams and joints where debris catches.
We work carefully around older registers and floor grates, and we tell you if we see anything worth having an HVAC technician look at, such as disconnected runs, crushed flex duct or gaps that pull basement air into the system.
Renovations, infill homes and new builds
Toronto is always under construction. When a kitchen is gutted or a basement is finished, the furnace often keeps running and pulls drywall dust, sawdust and plaster into the return ducts. New infill homes are often occupied before anyone cleans out the construction debris left in the system. If you have just renovated or moved into a new build, a duct cleaning is one of the most noticeable improvements you can make. For the best result, book it after the dusty work is finished and before your final carpet and upholstery cleaning.
HRV and ERV systems
Many newer Toronto homes and condos have a heat recovery ventilator (HRV) or energy recovery ventilator (ERV). These units bring in fresh air and exhaust stale air, and they have their own filters and core that collect dust. Let us know if you have one when you book, and we will include it in the inspection.
What we check during the inspection
- Supply and return registers in every room
- The main trunk lines and the cold air return
- The furnace blower compartment and filter
- The dryer vent route and the exterior hood
- Any HRV or ERV unit
You get a clear explanation of what we found and what the cleaning will involve, and a written quote before any work starts.
How to prepare for your appointment
- Clear a path to the furnace and to each register and return.
- Move small items away from floor vents.
- Let us know about pets so we can plan around them.
- Condo owners: book the elevator and confirm parking or loading dock access with your building.
Keeping ducts clean after we leave
Change your furnace filter on schedule, and more often during renovations or if you have pets. Vacuum register covers when you clean. Close vents and cover returns during dusty projects. Keep indoor humidity between about 30 and 50 percent. These simple habits stretch the time between cleanings. Our guide on how often to clean your air ducts covers this in more detail.

We clean ducts across the city, including Downtown, Midtown, Leaside, Davisville, Forest Hill, the Annex, Leslieville, Riverdale, the Beaches, East York, the Danforth, High Park, Bloor West Village, the Junction, Etobicoke, North York, Willowdale and Scarborough.
More duct cleaning questions
Do you clean ducts in semis and row houses?
Yes. Shared walls do not change the process. We clean every run in your unit.
Can you clean ducts after a basement flood?
Yes, once the water is dealt with. Return ducts in finished basements can collect moisture and debris, so they are worth checking. See water damage cleanup.
Will duct cleaning fix weak airflow?
It helps when buildup is the cause. If airflow is still weak after cleaning, the problem may be ductwork design or the furnace itself, and we will tell you.
Do I need to replace my filter after cleaning?
It is a good idea to start fresh with a new filter. We can show you where it is and which size you need.
